There are streets in Buffalo that look like something out of a war-torn Third World country. Poverty and drugs have ruined a once thriving place. But even with all the despair around, there are still some people who care about where they live, and who their neighbors are. Rocker Michael BonGiovanni and rapper Rodney Williams (aka J-Who) are two young men intent on promoting Christ to the people of America’s inner-cities. And what better place to start than in their backyard—boarded up, broken down, belittled Buffalo, New York. Hence, the dynamic duo just started “Christ City Ministries.”
“Our mission is to provide resources to those in need,” says Michael. “It’s also to provide hope for those who are hopeless. We will engage and form bonds with the people of the city and show them the love of Christ, by all means necessary.”
Michael and Rodney have been good friends ever since Rodney moved to the area from Bradenton, Florida. They had been talking about ways to reach out to Buffalo and finally decided that starting a street ministry would be the way to go.
“Passing out Gospel tracts, music and just shaking hands and fellowshipping with the people of Buffalo, New York, is how we’ve gotten started,” says Rodney.
The pair would like to see street teams assembled to go out onto city streets and talk with residents about their faith. They have a challenge ahead of them, as many Buffalo streets are controlled by gang members who want nothing to do with Christ.
