VIVE is an interfaith organization which serves refugees, defined under the Geneva Convention of 1948, as “people who have a well-founded fear of persecution based on their race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or social group.” VIVE assists world refugees seeking asylum both in the U.S. and in Canada.


Located at 50 Wyoming Ave. Bflo 14215VIVE operates La Casa on Buffalo's East Side, a shelter with 108 beds. VIVE provides food, shelter, clothing, healthcare and legal services to refugees as they await their appointment to enter Canada or their U.S. asylum hearing.

In 2007, VIVE provided services to over 3500 individuals. Typically, over 70% of shelter residents are women and children. Since its founding in 1984, VIVE has assisted over 63,000 refugees from over 106 countries.

VIVE provides many opportunities for individuals, students, congregations, or business groups to become involved as volunteers.

VIVE is a non-profit 501(c)(3) which receives funding from individual donors, congregations, foundations and corporations, and city, county, state, and federal agencies. They welcome donations of monetary contributions as well as supplies that can assist world refugees.

On their current wish list? XP & Mac OS X.4, Capable computers, computer geeks, diapers, fresh produce, plastic cutlery, adult underwear, laundry soap, deodorants, socks, baby wipes, sponges, mops, brushes, and cleaning solvents.
