Interview with Nathan Salter PDF Print E-mail
Nathan Salter

Nathan Salter runs a music school, is a music minister at his church in Buffalo, heads up a youth music camp each summer, and still finds time to record his own original music, touring around the world.

The thirtysomething dad is known in Western New York as someone who ushers in the presence of the Lord when he preaches, plays drums or keys, and directs singers and fellow musicians in a powerful, anointed way.

To experience a "concert" of Nathan's is to enter into a direct pipeline to God, whereas he encourages you to lift up your hands, to cry out to God, to ask Him for whatever is pressing on your mind-- help with your health, finances, relationships, etc.

If you leave a Nathan Salter concert unchanged then you chose not to take part; you chose not to connect with God.

For Nathan, music is a way for us to connect with the Almighty. With that in mind, he writes and performs different types of music in order to connect with all sorts of people and help them praise, worship, rejoice, and personally declare their faith.

Nathan is unique because he attracts every color and age there is, from inner city black youth to grey-haired white suburbanites. His multi-cultural praise and worship music ranges from clap your hands/stomp your feet black Gospel music to ethereal smooth jazz, and then some. Once in a while, guitars are featured, or other instruments like the violin or harp.

If you're familiar with Donald Lawrence or Martha Munizzi, then you'll have someone to compare Nathan and his music to; if not, know that he's uniquely suited for such a time as this whereas he can adapt to different audiences all the while staying consistent with who he is.

Q) You have a new CD/DVD out called "Narrow Way Live." Why did you name the project that?

A) This generation needs to be reminded that we as believers will have to take a stand to be different; while everyone is doing what's popular, we must stay on the Narrow Road that Christ commands us to live! HOLINESS!!

Q) What is the purpose of your new CD/DVD? What can listeners expect if they listen to it?

A) The purpose of this CD is to allow every ethnic group to hear the SCRIPTURES put to wonderful music. Each song has a Bible message.

Q) "You've Given Me Power," a song on the new CD, reminds me of something from Hillsongs Australia. I can picture arenas of people singing this refreshing song. What's the story behind this song?

A) You've Given Me Power is going to be an anthem in the church, because this song will remind the Body of Christ what we possess, and what our commission is; It's to be salt and light, and to be a Witness of/for Jesus Christ.

Q) You recorded this project in Rochester, New York, during one of your legendary Youth Music Camps. How come you run a summer camp for young Christian musicians and singers?

A) My assignment is to be a bridge to launch the next generation into their music ministry destiny. The camp is designed just for that purpose.

Q) You also run a Christian music school. What makes your school "Christian?"

A) All the instructors are believers and love the Lord. We start all our lessons with prayer. We don't preach to or ever try to convert the students, but we make them aware of who gave them their talent!

Q) Talk about your work with the youth ministry known as "Joshua Revolution."

A) I have served JR on their program team for 5 years; I headed the JR choir for three years, and recently became one of their Main Stage bands.

Q) Your new CD is divided into different sections; what are they and why did you divide it up like that?

A) I tried to give the listeners sections they could go right into-- If they feel like just praising, they can go right into the Praise Zone; If they just want the intimate Worship they can set their tracks right to the Worship Zone; Then if someone needs some personal encouragement, they can go to the Personal Declaration Zone.

Q) What do you hope the music on this CD will do?

A) Cause the Body of Christ to appreciate diversity in Praise and Worship-- To cause churches to sing them in their congregations, so we can get the scriptures back into our songs. I pray it encourages everyone to become more closer to the Word of God, and His heart!

Q) You've toured many places, ushering people into the presence of the Lord from New York City to Africa, and then some. What do all the people you've been before have in common?

A) They love GOD, love to praise and worship, love the Word of God... I have had the privilege to minister to black congregations, white congregations, hispanic congregations... and they all respond to the presence of God.

Q) How come you decided to make both a DVD and a CD for "Narrow Way Live?"

A) I wanted to capture visually what was recorded on audio. Also I wanted to share my heart with the viewer.

Q) "We Want Your Presence," on the new CD, got me crying, in a good way. How do you come up with songs like that-- songs that reach the listener's soul?

A) I write from my heart. That song is my prayer, and I wrote it because it's so many other people's prayer, too.

Q) What makes your live concerts a bit different from other artists' concerts?

A) I lead from the Drumset, I don't want to bring too much attention to myself, and I will stay on stage until GOD shows his manifested presence.

Q) If a person buys "Narrow Way Live" it's going to ____ fill in the blank...

A) CHANGE THEIR LIFE, and share diversity in Worship music...

Q) Anything else you'd like people to know?

A) My number one desire is to please God and to encourage people to be happy with how God has made them.

Q) How do people book you to come minister thru speaking and music? How do they buy a copy of "Narrow Way Live?"

A) Go to my website www.nathansalter.org
